What are the key corporate tax rules, deadlines and penalties?
Corporate tax applies to tax periods starting on or after 1 June 2023. These are the points that catch most businesses out.
- Registration: companies set up on or after 1 March 2024 must generally apply within three months of incorporation.
- Late registration: a missed deadline carries an AED 10,000 administrative penalty, though the FTA has applied a waiver in some cases.
- Filing: the return and any tax due are generally payable within nine months of the end of the tax period, through EmaraTax.
- Records: keep accounting records and supporting documents for at least seven years.
- Small Business Relief: eligible resident businesses with revenue under AED 3 million can elect relief for tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2026, and must still register.
- Corporate tax vs VAT
